James W. Jansen, 68, of Fountain (formerly of Oceana County), found eternal peace in the arms of his Lord Monday June 22, 2015. Jim was born June 1, 1947 in Muskegon to William and Kathryn (Smith) Jansen Parnell.
Jim was a proud Muskegon Big Red and enlisted in the United States Army in 1964. He was a veteran of the US Army, completing two tours of Duty in Vietnam from 1964-1968. Jim married Marsha (Houghton) Masco and they were deeply devoted to each other for over 35 years. They spent much of their time together, engaging in shared hobbies and activities. He enjoyed fishing, spending time outdoors, and riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Jim retired from Great Lakes Castings in Ludington in 2013. Upon retirement he was able to spend more time with his wife, son, and grandchildren. He was an active parishioner of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Weare, as well as attending daily mass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Custer. Jim was a founding member of St. Joseph's/St. Vincent's first Knights of Columbus council, the Father Francis Emmerich Council # 15993, where he held the position of Warden. Jim was a life member of the Muskegon VFW Post #446 along with his father, and his son Arthur. He was also a member of the American Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Together with his wife, Jim was passionate about many causes that helped others, including The Wounded Warrior Project, POW/MIA, and Relay For Life. He was also a lifelong Harley Owners Group member, Fremont HOG Chapter #2232.
Jim is survived by his beloved and deeply devoted wife, Marsha; son, Arthur (Kim) Masco and special niece, Heather (Jeremy) Hallack; granddaughters, Savanaha, Cheyenne, Kennedy, and Brooklynn Masco, and he was a very special "Papa" to Lillian, Grace, Isabella, and his "Fella" Clinton James Hallack. Additional surviving family members include, sisters, Connie (LaVern) Speers, Norma (Jim) McMillan and Debra Davis; step brother, Chuck (Marilyn) Parnell; mother in law; Dorothy Houghton; sister in law, Brenda Johnson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry; sister, Betty Lou Haynes; step sister, Georgeanne Phillips; nephew Jarrod Johnson; and brother in law Tom Davis.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Jim will be offered Saturday, August 22, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Weare. Interment will be in Bachellor Cemetery in Fountain. Visitation will be Friday, August 21, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the King Funeral Home in Hart, where the Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. There will also be visitation on Saturday one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
