IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Edward
Jett, Ii
December 31, 1955 – June 14, 2025
James Edward Jett, II, aged 69, of Mears, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born on December 31, 1955, in Toledo, Ohio, he was the cherished son of James Edward Sr. and Ina Mae (Wessels) Jett.
Jim grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and graduated from Union High School. He pursued higher education at the National Institute of Technology (NIT), where he earned an engineering degree. This foundation led to a remarkable 35-year career at APV, later known as BakerPerkins, in Grand Rapids.
Jim's life was enriched by an array of passions and talents. He found peace and exhilaration on the open waters, where his love for sailing and scuba diving brought him endless joy. Equally dear to his heart was his involvement with the Wheatland Festival, where he inspired children by crafting musical instruments, passing on the beauty of sound and creativity to the next generation.
Jim was also known for his passion for sharing knowledge. Whether it was his expertise in engineering, his fascination with history, or his skill in craftsmanship, he delighted in teaching and inspiring those around him. His family fondly recalls how he passed down his wisdom and insights, ensuring that his legacy would endure in the hearts and minds of all who had the privilege of learning from him. They believe that Jim will forever be with them, as his knowledge and love have become a part of who they are.
His appreciation for history and craftsmanship shone through his avid collection of antiques and firearms, each item a testament to his deep curiosity and respect for the past. Among his most treasured pursuits was crafting and repairing custom guitars alongside his family, blending artistry, passion, and connection into every instrument created. Each guitar stood as a symbol of harmony and love shared with those closest to him.
Jim is survived by: his devoted wife of 43 years, Susan (Saunders) Jett; his three children, James III (Amy) of Zeeland, Michael of Battle Creek, and Mandy (Michael Saunders) of Mears; and his beloved grandchildren, James IV, Katie, Collin, Ema, Lilly, Paul, and Morgan.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, James Sr. and Ina Mae Jett; his sister Debra; and his parents-in-law, William Charles Saunders and Loretta Mae Saunders.
Jim will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose warmth and humor brought happiness to everyone around him. His enduring legacy lives on in the stories lovingly shared by his family and friends, in the example he set as a devoted family man, and in the profound love he gave to his wife, Susan. His kindness and generosity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
