James Edward Townsend was born on Monday, August 28, 1995, to Melanie Townsend and Michael Townsend. He grew up in Twin Lake, Michigan, with a pure heart and joyous spirit. He was the best son that could ever be dreamed of.

James graduated with the class of 2014 from Whitehall High School, where he competed in Track and Field. He melted hearts with his smile, and was a tender-hearted soul who put others at ease with positivity. He was inclusive, and accepted everyone just as they are. He developed into an unassuming man of faith, who embodied love, loyalty, and service to others. Those who worked with him knew him to be strong, competent, and dedicated. James regularly offered protection and comfort to children, animals, and to anyone who needed it.

He loved hiking in nature, surrounded by fresh air, water, and trees. He made the most of what life offered day-to-day, despite challenges, and without complaint. He was passionate about healthy living through nutrition, sharing a good meal, going for a jog, or caring for someone in need. He was nourished by good food and music that fed his soul.

He passed away suddenly on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at the age of 25, as the result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. James is preceded in death by his grandfather he was named after, James M. Townsend and Julius Edward Williams and Judith Williams.

James is survived by his grandmother Barbara Townsend, as well as his parents, and siblings: Ashlae, Chelsea, William, and Rebekah. He also leaves his nieces and nephew Irie, Evlie, and Finnley. He is survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, numerous beloved friends, and also by community members who were touched by his sweet spirit, handsome good looks, and noble character.

Arrangements to be handled at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel at 413 S. Mears Avenue in Whitehall, Michigan 49461. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 23, 2021 at 1:00 PM. James has permanently transformed our hearts for the better. We will miss him eternally.
