Jason Shane
Nickerson
Sep 12, 1971 — May 6, 2026
Jason Shane Nickerson was a soulmate, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, to name a few. He passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026 at the age of 54 knowing his family and friends were by his side. He was born on September 12, 1971 in Traverse City, MI to Pete Nickerson and Mary Jo (Skillern) McVay. Jason lived a life marked by strength, loyalty, humor, and deep love for his family.
A proud veteran of the 82nd Airborne Division, Jason served his country with courage and honor. The values he carried from his military service—discipline, resilience, and brotherhood—remained with him throughout his life.
Outside of his service, he found peace in the outdoors, especially while hunting. Whether sitting quietly in the woods before sunrise or sharing stories afterward at the cabin, those moments brought him great joy. He was also known for his great sense of humor and witty personality, often sharing quotes that made people laugh, think, or shake their heads with a smile. One of his favorites was: “Bombs are droppin’ people are dyin’ what are ya gonna do?”
More than anything, Jason loved his family. Jenn was “the Alise” his home, his peace and his greatest love. He was a proud father to Delainey and Katelyn, an adoring grandpa to Iris, a caring brother to his many siblings, and the kind of uncle who was always ready with advice, a joke, or a story. His presence brought comfort and strength to those around him.
He will be remembered for his strong handshake, his comforting hugs, his stubborn spirit, his loyalty to the people he loved, and the countless memories made with family and friends.
Though he has taken his final ride, his stories, laughter, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Jason is survived by Jenn, his life partner, daughters Katelyn (Chris) Blessing and Delainey Nickerson (Austin Dunscombe), granddaughter Iris Weaver, adoring grandmother Vera Nickerson, siblings Jessica (Corey) Rowe, Megan Nickerson, Whitney King, Cody Nickerson, Caleb (Abbey) Nickerson and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Roger Nickerson (grandfather), Pete Nickerson (Father), Vicki Nickerson (Stepmother), Dave Nickerson (uncle) and Viola Skillern (Grandmother)
