Jeannette "Jean" Marie Terryn, 86, of Walkerville, passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon. She was born September 3, 1931, in Ludington, the daughter of Irven and Beatrice (Arnold) Castonia.
Jean retired from Elbridge Public Schools, where she was a secretary for over ten years. In her spare time, Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting, selling her projects at craft shows, admiring eagles and being an avid Detroit Tigers fan. Jean also enjoyed the winters she was able to spend in Zephryhills, Florida, where she made many friends and was able to watch the sky divers.
Jean liked to travel with her husband, Howard, visiting many places throughout the United States as well as several different countries. One of their trips included a whitewater rafting adventure which she did at the age of 65. They were members of the Carefree Sams Camping Club and the Melody Makers Square Dancing Club for many years.
Most of all, Jean loved spending time with her family and especially loved canning peaches and making applesauce for her grandchildren.
On April 25, 1952, Jean married Howard L. Terryn, who survives her. She is also survived by: 4 children, Mark (Cathy Stout) Terryn of White Cloud, Brad (Yvonne) Terryn of Troy, Rita (Kelvin) Lapham of Wayland, and Scott (Christina) Terryn of Oakland Township; 8 grandchildren, Peter (Marci) Terryn, Christopher (Maggie) Terryn, Gregory Terryn, Steven Terryn, Nathan (Ashley) Lapham, Mitchell Lapham, Brooke Terryn and Kyle Terryn; 7 great-grandchildren, Jacob Gawron, Chase Terryn, Maddie Terryn, Maya Terryn, Georgia Terryn, Crosby Terryn and Amelia Lapham; her sister, Nancy (Roger) Glamzi of Scottville; her brothers, Larry Castonia of Lansing, Gary Castonia of Lansing, and Ken (Sandy) Castonia of Muskegon; her sister-in-law, Wilma Whelan of Hart; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by: her parents; and her sister, Lois Terryn.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Monday, July 30, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, 2370 N. 72 nd Avenue, Hart, with Pastor Steve Young officiating. Interment will be in the Crystal Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, July 29, 2018, from 2-4 PM, at the funeral home.
