Jeffery Robert Cockerill, 72, of Whitehall, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2024. He was born June 22, 1952, in Shelby, the son of Robert and Eileen (Huston) Cockerill.

Jeff graduated from Montague High School in 1970. After high school, he attended Michigan State University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in Turfgrass Management. His first job was General Manager at Chickaming Country Club in Lakeside, Michigan, before making his way back to the White Lake Community in 1981 when he became a partner of Hunts Hardware, and eventual owner. Jeff continued to work the aisles of Hunts until his death, 43 years after his first day on the job. Jeff valued his community and was active in the White Lake Chamber of Commerce and the Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club.

On June 24, 2016, Jeff married Cindy Tutak. They enjoyed playing golf, riding bicycles, and spending time with grandchildren and family.

Jeff is survived by: his wife, Cindy Cockerill; son, Ryan (Stacey) Cockerill; siblings, Kay (Max) Pufpaff, Jack (Sharon) Cockerill, Mike (Stephenie) Cockerill, Becky (Lee) Schmiedeknecht, and Joe Cockerill; and grandchildren, Jackson, Elle, Keaton, and Isabella.

Jeff was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Eileen (Huston) Cockerill.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, 413 South Mears Avenue, Whitehall, MI 49461.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The White Lake Giving Tree and Montague-Whitehall Rotary Club.
