Obituary

Mr. Joe Willard Cozart, age 82 passed away on March 26, 2008 in the Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart. Willard was born on August 15, 1925 on Hickory Knob in Smithfield, West Virginia. Willard was the youngest child of George and Samantha (Shreve) Cozart's ten children. He graduated from Smithfield High School before serving in the U.S. Army during W.W. II in North Africa and Italy. Willard moved to Michigan in 1947 to work in the oil and gas business. Willard and Mary A. Fisher were married on March 27, 1948. Willard was a lifetime member of the Bowring Lodge #377 Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan. Joe retired from Consumers Energy as Land Acquisitions Supervisor in June 1986. He spent his retirement years in Pentwater, Michigan. He will be remembered as a brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary, his children, Terri (Gary) Feldt of Mattawan, MI, David (Margie) Cozart of Pentwater, Todd Cozart of Murfreesboro, TN, Wendy (Gary) Matthews of Twin Lake, MI; four grandchildren, Keith (Sarah) Feldt, Kevin (Jessica) Feldt, Kendra Cozart, Evan Cozart; one great granddaughter, Cora L. Feldt; two step grandchildren, Carly (Matt) Atkin and Collin Matthews; one step-great grandson, Carter Atkin; two brothers, C. Allen Cozart and Harold E. Cozart; nine brothers in law and sisters in law from the Fisher family, Mildred (Ralph) Ice, John (Jane) Fisher, Jim (Regina) Fisher, Helen Fisher, Ed Cunningham and Bill Goddard. He is also survived by numerous Cozart and Fisher nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Cozart will be held Monday, March 31, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. from the Centenary United Methodist Church with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Interment will be in the Pentwater Township Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to the Leukemia-Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma Association, Oceana County Medical Care Facility or the American Cancer Society.
