IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe
Synol
January 15, 1944 – February 21, 2025
Joe Synol, 81, passed away at home on February 21, 2025 after a long battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He was born on Jan. 15, 1944 and lived the vast majority of his life in Northern New Jersey. He took pride in relocating to Northern Michigan in retirement, where his wife has roots. After briefly living in Kalkaska, they built their dream home near the shores of Elk Lake and were able to share this home for one year and nine months before his passing. Joe worked for decades in New Jersey as an entrepreneur in the sewer and drain cleaning business.
In his spare time, Joe took great joy in building wooden boats including a canoe and a guideboat. His skill, craftmanship and creativity were evident in all of his work. He lived a life marked by dedication, honesty, loyalty, responsibility and a deep connection with those around him. He took pride in working with his hands, leaving behind not only tangible works, but also cherished memories for those who knew him.
Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Boynton Synol and his children, Christopher Synol, Stacey Synol, Nancy Bosack & Matthew Synol, and his step-son Jesse Staub. He also leaves behind his brother John Synol as well as many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and a great grandchild. He was predeceased by his son, Brian Synol, his brother Douglas Synol, and his parents, Eugenia and Vincent J Synol.
Joe was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Those who knew him will remember not just the way his life ended, but the way he lived, working hard and taking good care of others. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his loss.
An informal service will be held at a later date.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
