ALVESTEFFER, JOHN LAWRENCE (Husband of Nancy) of Shelby. Mr. John L. Alvesteffer, age 72, passed away unexpectedly early Sunday morning, February 7, 2010. He was born July 10, 1937 to Lawrence George and Agnes Alice Alvesteffer. We lost a great farmer, millwright, mechanic, electrician, plumber, carpenter, hunter, parasail pilot, golfer and motorcycle enthusiast. Mr. Alvesteffer was a longtime member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Shelby and St. John's Catholic Church in Claybanks, and a fourth degree Knight of Columbus. On April 27, 1957, he married Nancy Jean Cloud in Weare, and she survives him along with their children, Eva Marie (Randall) Johnson, William (Anja) Alvesteffer, Patrick (Dianne) Alvesteffer, Diana (John) Devlin, Suzanne (Dale) Symon, Keith (Mary) Alvesteffer, Valerie (John) Hanson, Lynn (Anthony) Schiller; 36 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joanne McGhee, Lucille Stroup, David (Michelle) Alvesteffer, Carol (Jerry) Kirkbride, Rose Barnhard; siblings in law, Joyce Alvesteffer and Chuck Antonopoulos. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Max Alvesteffer, Reverend Eugene Alvesteffer, and sister Marie Antonopoulos. Visitation will be held at Tate-King Funeral Home in Hart, MI on Friday, February 12, from 2-4pm and 6-8pm followed by a rosary. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 13, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Weare, MI. MEMORIALS to the Alzheimer's Association will be appreciated.
