Mr. John Henry Jenkins, Jr., age 74, of Hart, and formerly of Grand Rapids, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014. He was born January 4, 1940, in Grand Rapids to John Henry and Theresa Edith (Syswarda) Jenkins, Sr. He married Kathy Lou Euker on September 6, 1969, at Fountain Street Church in Grand Rapids; she preceded him in death in 2005. John Henry was employed at Kent County Road Commission as a sign maker for thirty-five years, until his retirement in 1998. Mr. Jenkins enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, especially doing artwork with his granddaughter, Abigail. He loved to fish and enjoyed vacation trips to Traverse City to fish on Silver Lake. He also enjoyed cooking and was known for his goulash. A member of First Wesleyan Church in Walker, Mr. Jenkins served in the United States Navy.
John is survived by two daughters, Jennifer Ann Jenkins and Mary Beth (Chris) Simkins, both of Hart; one son, John Henry (Nicole) Jenkins III of Dorr; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, with a third due any time; several nieces and nephews; three sisters, Mary Alice Branning and Kathleen Ann (Lyle) Christensen, both of Grant, and Dawn Marie Jenkins of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Robert Dale (Connie Lynn) Jenkins and James Alden Jenkins, both of Fruitport; and his caregiver, Derrick Thompson, who cared for him for several years. The family greatly appreciated Derrick's love and care for John. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a son, Joshua Jenkins; and two brothers, Daniel Lee Jenkins and Thomas Wesley Jenkins.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Jenkins will be Friday, April 18, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart.
