Dr. John B. Patterson, M.D., age 99, of Fort Worth, Texas, passed away April 10, 2010 in Tucson, AZ. John was born January 4, 1911 to John and Lilla (Scott) Patterson. He was born, raised and vacationed in Pentwater. He married Eleanor Ann Bailey on June 8, 1939 in Virginia Beach, VA. John is survived by his wife Eleanor Ann Patterson, his four children, John Bailey (Rita) Patterson of Anchorage, AK, Mary Elizabeth (Milford) Miller of Fort Wayne, IN, Ann Eleanor (John) Hart of Tucson, AZ, James Sterling (Lari) Patterson of Colorado Springs, CO; eight grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, three step grandchildren, five step great grandchildren. He graduated from Pentwater High School in 1928, University of Michigan L.S. & A., in 1931 where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, and University of Michigan School of Medicine where he was a member of Nu Sigma Nu and received his M.D. degree in 1936. He received further training at Boston City Hospital, 1936-1939, Boston Lying-In Hospital 1939, the Holland Clinic and Free Hospital for Women 1940. He was licensed to practice in Michigan in 1939, Illinois in 1940 and Texas in 1946. He was a partner in private practice in General Surgery in Holland, MI until he went on active duty in the Navy as a Lt.j.g in 1942 and served in New Guinea during WW II until 1946 (lieutenant commander). He served his preceptorship with Dr. James T. Mills, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Baylor Hospital, Dallas, TX May 1946 to October 1949. He was certified by (Diplomat of) The American Board of Plastic Surgery, August 1949 at which time he set up his practice of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Fort Worth, Texas until his retirement in 1984. He was a staff member at St. Joseph's Hospital, Harris Hospital, All Saints Hospital, John Peter Smith Hospital, Cook Memorial Hospital and Children's Hospital, Fort Worth, TX. He was a member of the Fort Worth Surgical Society (past presidneet-1969), Tarrant County Medical Society, Texas State Medical Association, Texas Surgical Society, Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons (past president and founding member), American Medical Association, Fellow, American College of Surgeons, American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Inc., The American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, Inc. and (founding member), the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, International Confederation for Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, International Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, Fort Worth Society of Plastic Surgeons (past president and founding member 1980-1981). Interment has taken place in the Pentwater Township Cemetery and there will be a memorial service held at a later date. Memorials may be given to the charity of your choice.
