Mr. John Raymond Stevens Jr., age 66, of Custer, MI, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2015. He was born April 12, 1948, in Muskegon, MI, to John and Elizabeth Stevens Sr. John attended Muskegon Community College for 2 years and was employed as a case worker for West Michigan Community Mental Health. He served in the U.S. Navy and married Jean Carlson on July 10, 1993 in Muskegon, MI. John was a dedicated member of the Hart Long Rifles. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, playing the saxophone and relaxing around campfires at the lake with the grandchildren. John is survived by his wife, Jean Stevens of Custer, MI; two daughters, Kari (Matt) Harburn of Muskegon, MI, and Tara (Bobbie) Beekman of Muskegon, MI; one son, Charles D. (Kayla) Gaul of Muskegon, MI; and eight grandchildren, Jamie, Brock and Morgan Harburn, Elijah, Jackson and Amorin Lutke, Nathan and Natalie Gaul. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter, Jamie Stevens in 1997. The Memorial Service for Mr. Stevens will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 2:00 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart. The family requests that any memorials be directed to the Hart Long Rifles at P.O. Box 302, Hart, MI 49420 (for the construction of the concrete walkway for persons with disabilities).
