John Thomas Van Velzor, 86, of Walled Lake, Michigan, died Friday, March 22, 2019, at Hope Hospice House in Lehigh Acres, Florida.  He was born November 17, 1932, in Lansing, the son Roscoe and Marie (Kelly) Van Velzor.

Tom was loved by many and well-liked by everyone he met.  He liked to make people laugh and he loved to play games. More specifically, he liked to win games. Euchre, Cribbage, Whist, Hearts, Tripoly were some of his favorite card games. He had a passion for Golf and also enjoyed Bingo, Bean Bag Baseball, Shuffleboard, Monopoly and Dice with buddies.  He and Jo were avid Detroit Lions, Red Wings, Tigers and Piston fans. His retirement from GM afforded him the time to pursue the things he loved to do and he lived his life to the fullest. He will be missed.

He is survived by: his wife of 64 years, Jo Ethel (Rimmer); daughters, Rhonda (Dan) Daugherty, Joyce (James) Gill; sons, Kevin, Thomas and Jeff (Trish); 16 grandchildren, Brian (Kendra), Bruce (Sarabeth), Nicole, Kristin (Derren), Nathan (Jamie), Megen (Bryan), Jared, Jonathan, Tyler, Jennifer, Kyle, Martina (Lance), Edward (Samantha), Julee-Anna, Katherine, and Greg; and 9 great-grandchildren, Ethen, Savanna, Natalie, Lucas, Hannah, Evan, Samantha, Victoria, Liam, Elias, Killian, and Magdy.

He was proceeded in death by his son Robert (Amy).

Visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, followed by graveside committal services at Mears Cemetery.
