John "Jack" Steven Varso, 77, of Whitehall, conquered his long battle with PSP (Progressive Supranuclear Palsy), surrounded in prayer, music, and love with his family on April 23, 2020, at 1:33PM. He was born in Gary, Indiana, on January 31, 1943, the son of Steve and Lucile Varso.
Jack married Bonnie Krill on July 15, 1967. Together they were blessed with almost 53 years of marriage and four children. Jack served proudly in the US Navy during Vietnam as a Quartermaster on the nuclear submarines. He was a beloved teacher and wrestling coach at Whitehall Public Schools from 1970-2003. He also taught adult education for many years. He enjoyed camping, stunt kite flying, and Notre Dame Football. Jack was an accepting, encouraging, passionate, loving, supportive, larger-than-life man, who will be deeply missed.
Jack is survived by: his wife, Bonnie; children, Aaron, Jason, Jody (Bryan), and Elizabeth; grandchildren, Branden, Ryanne, Mikayle, Mikenna, Mikeira, Kya, Keagan, and Emelia; sister, Suzanne (Connie Bern); sister-in-law, Dixie (Tom) Juchcinski; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, and was joined in death three days later by his brother-in-law, William Krill.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation will take place and a celebration of life will be held once COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted.
Information regarding memorial contributions will be announced later.
Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
