Joyce Eileen Anderson, 82, passed into the arms of our Lord Jesus on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Spectrum Health Hospital - Ludington, after a courageous 3-year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born February 23,1934 in Elbridge Twp. to Russell and Gertha Tate.
Joyce attended the Sackrider one room school house until the 8th grade, after which she attended Hart High School, graduating with the class of 1952. As a high school cheerleader, she always regretted that the school didn't offer "girls" sports so she could have participated in high school. During her working career, she had many administrative and secretarial positions in Hart, Muskegon, Houston TX, Owosso, and Pentwater.
Joyce never aged, either in looks, attitude, or personality. She always had a love for life and lived each day one day at a time, and no matter what she was doing, she had a positive outlook. Joyce had many longtime friends that she cherished, dating back to her childhood in Elbridge Twp., Hart H.S, Houston TX., and Pentwater. On December 27, 1980, Joyce married the love of her life, Paul Anderson, at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Pentwater. They lived in Pentwater, Houston, TX., Owosso, and back to their real home of Pentwater. She was a long time member of the Pentwater Yacht Club, the Pentwater Lake Association, and a special affiliation with COVE in Ludington.
She loved the outdoors, and was an avid downhill and cross-country skier, jogger, and in recent years a walker, and very proud that she would walk at least one mile every day. She was a huge basketball and football fan, either professional or college, and split her allegiance in college games - 90% MSU, and 10% U of M. She loved all animals - especially penguins, frogs, cats and dogs, but the animal of her life was Sushi, the "Wonder Dog". Sushi is a rescue dog from the Ludington shelter that rescued Joyce and Paul in 2007 and made their lives complete. She was such a joy to Joyce and has been a great companion.
Joyce, along with her husband Paul, have faithfully attended the First Baptist Church of Pentwater since 2008. Joyce publicly renewed her faith in the Lord and was baptized in the summer of 2015. It was one of the most joyous moments of her life. Paul and Joyce have enjoyed the wonderful fellowship of the FBC family, and the outpouring of love, grace, and mercy that is overwhelming. As Joyce said so many times, "We are blessed beyond belief to be a part of such a wonderful church family."
She is survived by her husband Paul Anderson of Pentwater, brother Harold (Frances) Tate of Elbridge, brother Jim (Nancy) Tate of Elbridge, brother Dan Tate of Elbridge, two step sons Ryan (Lindsey) McGee of Ruskin, FL, and Colin (Dina) McGee of Hyattsville, MD, along with four grandchildren - Evan (20), Kiera (18), Liliana (12) and Aidan (9). Also, many nieces, nephews and cousins in the area. She was proceeded in death by her parents, her brother Willard, sister-in-law Stella, and sister-in-law Sally.
Cremation has already taken place and entrusted to King Funeral Home of Hart. A private family internment will be held at Pentwater cemetery. There will be a Celebration of Joyce's Life on Sunday, June 12, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Pentwater (101 S. Rush St.) with Pastor Mark Lillie officiating. Following the service, the church will provide a light luncheon in the Fellowship Hall.
