IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce Elaine
Rankin
September 20, 1933 – February 19, 2024
Joyce Elaine Rankin (nee VanLandingham), 90, of Buckley, Michigan, passed away on February 19, 2024, in Traverse City, Michigan. She is survived by her beloved husband Edward Rankin, son Paul (Michelle) Wilmoth of Grawn, daughter Nancy (Brian) Rippon of Farmington Hills, daughter Kimberly (Douglas) Sparks of Charlevoix, brother Donald VanLandingham of Allen, Virginia, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Joyce was preceded in death by her son Steven Wilmoth, brother Thomas VanLandingham, brother Kenneth VanLandingham, sister Sharron Maltby, and brother William Maltby.
Joyce's greatest joy was spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren. She was an avid sewer and enjoyed making clothes, costumes, quilts, and crafts as well as working with Edward on his side upholstery business. Joyce loved to shop and had a substantial collection of shoes for every occasion. She canned nearly every fruit and vegetable each summer and was a great cook. Joyce loved crossword puzzles and did them daily in pen, including the New York Times Sunday puzzle. She was ahead of her time in terms of nutrition and was a bit obsessed with vitamins, a passion not always shared by her family. Joyce had a lot of sass and was an avid worrier, never convinced you would get home safely, had enough to eat, or were as comfortable as you could be.
A visitation in memory of Joyce will be held at Beacon Funeral Home Covell-Kingsley Chapel in Kingsley, Michigan, on Saturday, February 24, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Michigan (hom.org).
Thank you to all the nurses who cared for Joyce during her time with Hospice of Michigan, especially her assigned nurse Patti who "got her" and gave comfort and love to the end.
Beacon Funeral Home Covell-Kingsley Chapel in Kingsley, Michigan, is honored to assist the family with the funeral arrangements.
