IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joyce L
Winters
October 3, 1938 – January 2, 2023
Joyce Lucille (Wenz) Winters
October 3, 1938 - January 2, 2023
Joyce Winters, 84, of Elk Rapids, Michigan, was called peacefully to her eternal home on Monday, January 2, 2023. From the verse found in Hebrews 11:1 "Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see," Joyce's faith became sight when her Savior called her name and welcomed her Home. Joyce loved the Lord and committed her life to serving God and the church at Elk Rapids Baptist and New Hope Church in Northern Michigan.
She was born in Petoskey, Michigan, to the late Charles and Emma (Campbell) Wenz, where they raised her and her eight other siblings, Helen, Charles, Jack, Rosemary, Phillis, Shirley, and her twin sister, Joy. Although she grew up as a twin, she and Joy lost their triplet brother, Eddie, two months after birth. Joyce married her loving husband, Mike Winters, in 1957 and together they shared 64 years of marriage and raised their three children in Elk Rapids.
When she wasn't busy helping Mike with their family bell business, or keeping up with her own busy career (side hustles), she could be found watching the Tigers, enjoying her flower garden, playing card games with family and friends, attending church events, doing large puzzles in the winter months, or reading a book quietly on the couch. Joyce enjoyed the simple things in life, but more than anything, she enjoyed being with her loving family and friends. Along Mike's side, Joyce enjoyed great camaraderie of 35 years with the members of the Buckley Old Engine show as they ran a live foundry exhibit.
Joyce will be remembered by many for her kindness and her gentle smile, her hard work ethic, but constant chipper attitude, and the big heart she had for others.
Surviving Joyce are: her daughter, Judy (Larry) Masterson of Traverse City, Michigan; son, Larry (Kathy) Winters of Manistique, Michigan; sister-in-law, Marjorie (Max) Davis; sister-in-law, Delores (Burton) Winters; seven grandchildren, Derek (Caitlin) Winters, Melissa (David) Shaffer, Grant Winters, Jenny Conklin, Jacob Winters, Jessica (Spencer) LaBelle, and Jenna (Thomas) Freeborn; and four great- grandchildren, Henry, Ada and Caleb Shaffer, and Kai Conklin.
A celebration of life service will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 7, 2023, at New Hope Community Church, in Williamsburg, with visitation beginning at 10:00 AM. Visitation will also be held from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, Friday, January 6, 2023, at the church.
