Joycelyn Simmons, 93, of Kewadin, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022 at Munson Medical Hospital.

Joycelyn was born on January 7, 1929, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Edith (Piper) Shorr.  She graduated from Eastern Michigan University, then known as Michigan State Normal College, where she received her Bachelors degree in Education.  She was a 2 ^nd grade teacher.  In November of 1949 Joycelyn married Glen Simmons and raised two children with him.  They were married 62 years.

Joycelyn and Glen and her family spent summers at the cottage that they built on the bay in Elk Rapids in 1961, where they spent their retirement together.

Joycelyn was a member of the Elk Rapids Golf Course, Garden Club, Sewing Group, Antique Club, AAUW, First Presbyterian Church, KAT Club Group from College, and enjoyed living at Samaritas involving herself in all their activities.

Joycelyn is survived by her children, Beth (John) Stepke & Timothy (Hope) Simmons. Grandchildren, Conrad (Shaina) Stepke, Laura Stepke (Fiancée- Lio), Allison (Trent) Skiba, Alexandra Simmons (Fiancée- Mackenzie), along with Great Grandchildren, Ally, Lily, Sawyer & Fisher.

Private funeral service will be held with her children, as per her wishes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elk Rapids Golf Course for the Glen Simmons Memorial Youth Golf Program.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
