Obituary

June Barber Bartholomew, 94, of Montague, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, with her family by her side.  She was born June 27, 1924 in Welland, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Malcolm J. and Beatrice (McCann) Carter. In December 1942, she married David MacBain.  They divorced in May 1949. In December 1954, she married Peter Barber who preceded her in death in March 1985.  In May 1999, she married Howard Bartholomew who preceded her in death in June 2004.

June was a medical assistant for Drs. Barnes and Engstrom in Whitehall for 20 years.  She retired in 1981.   She enjoyed a full and active life for many years.  She was an active member of the Montague United Methodist Church, a Girl Scout leader, a charter member of the Dirt Dauber Garden Club, past president of the White Lake Women's Club, Montague City councilwoman, chair of the county Library Board, and a member of Friends of the Library.   She volunteered her time at Mercy Hospital, the Red Cross and the White Lake Community Fund.

June had a true zest for life and a love for people. She loved her family, her church, gardening, reading and knitting, making wonderful afghans for family and mittens and caps for the Methodist Church Mitten Tree.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Whitehall United Methodist Church, 117 South Division Street, Whitehall, with Pastor Mike Riegler and Jim Tanis officiating.

June is survived by: her children, Jim (Tindy) MacBain and Maggie (Don) Kline; grandchildren, Sean (Robin) MacBain, Jennifer MacBain-Stephens, David Filpovich, Tyrone Kline, Matt (Jennifer) Kline; great-grandchildren, Helenipa, Max, Locke, Peter, Madelyn and Mackenzie; sister, Audrey Teal; and several nieces, nephews, and in-laws.

A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 22, 2019, at Whitehall United Methodist Church, 117 South Division Street, Whitehall, with Pastor Mike Riegler and Jim Tanis officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muskegon Area District Library (Montague Branch), the Dirt Dauber Garden Club, or the Montague United Methodist Church.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
