Mrs. Katherine Virginia Smuk, age 89, of Mears, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2012. She was born June 15, 1923, in Dearborn Township to Paul and Nellie (Kalinski) Majewski. She was employed at General Motors. During World War II she worked in the Willow Creek Bomber Plant as one of the "Rosie the Riveter" women. She married Samuel Smuk on November 9, 1946 and they celebrated 65 years of marriage last year. Katherine was a longtime area resident, who moved to the area from Melvindale, Michigan. Katherine is survived by her husband, Samuel Smuk and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and two sisters.
