Kenneth Howard Klotz, 87, of Hart, passed away Thursday, April 16, 2015 in Whitehall, Michigan. He was born August 1, 1927 at home to Howard and Stacle (Blamer) Klotz of Walkerville, Michigan. Ken graduated in 1945 from Walkerville High School. While a senior in high school Ken was a bus driver and mechanic for the school system. He served our country in the United States Navy from August 1945 to August 1946. He was stationed aboard the air craft carrier USS Shangri-La. His medals include: the Victory Medal; the American Area Campaign Medal; and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was a member of the American Legion Post #0234. Ken attended and graduated from Western Michigan University with a Machinist Degree.
In 1963 Ken formed Klotz Texaco Service on State St. in Hart. He later became business partners with Greg Mahynski to form Ken & Greg's Texaco. When Mr. Mahynski retired, Klotz's Texaco was established. In 1980 Ken built his own auto repair business, Klotz Auto Service, near his family's home. He will be remembered as an excellent, honest, hardworking mechanic and business owner. Ken also served on the Hart Cemetery Board and the Hart Township Board of Review for several years.
Kenneth is survived by his wife Onabelle (Kerr) Klotz of 65 years. He was a loving father to his daughter Karen Klotz of Hart, MI and five sons; Kenneth Jr. (Janet) Klotz of Hart, MI; Kevin (Marina) Klotz of Alamo, CA; Kim (Diane) Klotz of Hart, MI; Kalvin Klotz of Pentwater, MI; and Karl Klotz (deceased). He truly loved and enjoyed his 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hilbert "Hip" Klotz; and a son, Karl Dean Klotz.
Ken will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He will not only be remembered for his love of family, but also his wisdom, quiet strength, tenacious work ethic, generosity, sense of humor, and compassion. The sparkle in his eyes and warm smile were true treasures.
The Memorial Service for Mr. Klotz will be Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 11:00 am at King Funeral Home in Hart with Pastor Elvin Harden officiating. Interment will be in Hart Cemetery with military honors by the Hart VFW and the Hart American Legion. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
