Kenneth "Ken" Lee Smith, 80, of Ludington, passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2018, at Mercy Health Mercy Campus in Muskegon. He was born October 18, 1938, in Chicago, the son of Lee and Rose (Arnold) Smith.
Ken was a Veteran of Vietnam, serving 4 years in the US Air Force followed by 4 years in the US Navy, and a member of the American Legion Edwin H. Ewing Post #76.
Ken worked for several years on the Frankfort Car Ferry as well at the Ludington Car Ferry, and retired from Ludington Area Public Schools, in 2000, where he was a custodian for many years. In his spare time, Ken enjoyed working in the garden, drawing and model trains. Most of all, Ken loved spending time with his family, especially his grandsons.
Ken was a member of St. Simon Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
On August 26, 1961, at St. Simon Catholic Church, in Ludington, Ken married Donna Walter, who survives him. He is also survived by: his daughters, Diane (Dan) VanderMeulen of Lowell, and Debbie (Josh) Hanson of Scottville; his grandsons, Garrett Hanson and Luke Hanson; his sister, Barbara Smith of San Diego, California; and several cousins.
Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, 309 S. Washington Avenue, Ludington, with Father Wayne B. Wheeler presiding. The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:00 PM until time of services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Ludington Area Schools Band or Hospice of Michigan.
