Laura May Bates, 74, of San Antonio, Texas, formerly of Ludington, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Monday, May 6, 2019.  She was born August 5, 1944, in Ludington, the daughter of Kenneth and June (Christensen) Bates.

Laura enjoyed baking and spending time with her family and friends, especially her granddaughters.

Laura is survived by: her children, Julia (Jorge) Castro of San Antonio, Texas, Lorenzo (Amber) Hernandez Jr. of San Antonio, and Pepe (Magali) Fernandez of Wisconsin; her sister, Lois Riffle of Fountain; her brothers, Fred (Cathi) Bates of Ludington, Kenny Bates of Ludington and Frank (Roberta) Bates of Ludington; and several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

Laura was preceded in death by: her husband, Jose Fernandez; and her son, Rufus.

A homecoming celebration will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 11, 2019, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, 309 S. Washington Avenue, Ludington, with Pastor Darrell Storvik officiating.  Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family to help with final expenses.
