Laverne Clarence Monton, 89, of Pentwater, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at Mercy Health Hackley Campus in Muskegon.  He was born December 27, 1929, in Custer Township, the son of Paul and Bessie (Matejovitz) Monton.

Laverne was very dedicated to his family and his community, and was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church.  A lifelong farmer, Laverne was a hardworking man who loved his Case IH tractors and Ford trucks. He also loved having fun, especially dancing with his wife, Clara Jean.

On January 15, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Laverne married Clara Jean Alvesteffer, who survives him.  He is also survived by: 8 children, Virginia Bieri of Cadillac, Joseph Monton of Ludington, Theresa Monton of Norton Shores, Marie (Paul) Miller of Casa Grande, Arizona, Mark (Annette) Monton of Pentwater, Pauline (Greg) Schultz of Rochester Hills, Louie Monton of Michigan, and Leo (Betsy) Monton of Wisconsin; 14 grandchildren, William Bieri, Paul Monton, Crystal Babbin, Alexis Claire, Luke Miller, Jack Miller, Nicholas Miller, Mark Monton II, Elizabeth Peterson, Maxwell Monton, Rebecca Schultz, Daniel Schultz, Timothy Monton and Alyssia Monton; 5 great-grandchildren, Ayva Monton, Addisyn Monton, Finn Monton, Huck Monton and Piper Monton; and several nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 24, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 W. Jackson Road, Hart, MI, 49420, with Father Phillip Sliwinski presiding.  Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Thursday, May 23, 2019, from 6-8 PM, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, King-Hart Chapel, in Hart.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
