Obituary

Mr. Lawrence Keith Adams, age 88, of Mears and formerly of Kalamazoo, passed away Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He was born February 24, 1925, in Odgen, Illinois to Allan and Beatrice (Harris) Adams. Keith served in the US Army during World War II, where he was awarded the Purple Heart Commendation. Keith and Marilyn Johnson were married September 5, 1947 in Kalamazoo; she preceded him in death on April 9, 2006. Keith made a career in sales of automotive-related test and mechanical equipment until retirement when they moved to Silver Lake. Mr. Adams was a people person who enjoyed socializing with family and friends. As the anointed "Mayor" of Silver Lake, Keith was always around to lend a helping hand to those in need and also served on the Golden Township Zoning Board. Keith was an accomplished woodworker and remained "dune ready" for any opportunity to cruise the dunes of Silver Lake.

Lawrence is survived by two sons, Brad (Mary) Adams of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Kurt Adams of Grand Rapids, Michigan; four grandchildren, Melinda (Brad) Lechner of Lawton, Michigan, Sonya Adams of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mathew (Kate) Adams of Denver, Colorado, and Rachel Kinney of Ft. Collins, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Angela Kinney; and three sisters, Beatrice Penning of Portage, Jeanne James of Kalamazoo, and Joan Reames of Kalamazoo. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, one brother, Donald Adams, and one sister, Wilma Hope.

The Memorial Services for Mr. Adams will be held Friday, May 10, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Fort Custer National Cemetery. A reception will be held following the service at the Augusta Custer VFW Post 7956, 13540 M-96, Augusta, MI 49012. There will also be a Memorial Service at the Keith Adams Pavilion in Silver Lake on Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 12:00 Noon. The family requests that any memorials be directed to the DAV Buck Crosby Chapter #6, c/o George Farnsworth, Jr., 149 Selkirk Ct., Kalamazoo, MI 49006, or to the Hart VFW Post 1329, 802 S.
