IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lawrence Bernard
Slade
January 4, 1939 – May 2, 2024
In Loving Memory of Lawrence B. Slade of Buckley, Michigan, formerly of St. Johns, Michigan.
Lawrence B. Slade, born on January 4, 1939, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, peacefully passed away on May 2,2024.
Larry was born to Earl and Ann (Hoogterp) Slade, growing up in a household filled with love and warmth. He attended Holy Name Catholic School, Catholic Central High School, and Aquinas College, where he nurtured his intellect and developed a strong sense of faith and community.
On May 7, 1962, Larry wed the love of his life, Dolores J. Thebo. Together, they embarked on a journey of love and companionship, sharing 52 beautiful years of marriage until Dolores's passing in 2014. Their bond was a shining example of enduring love and devotion, blessed with four children: Jackie, Larry Jr., Teresa, and Jeff.
Larry found immense joy in simple pleasures, particularly in the outdoors. Hunting and fishing were not just hobbies but cherished pastimes that allowed him to connect with nature and create lasting memories with his family. He and Dolores shared a love for travel, spending many winters basking in the sunshine of Florida, creating cherished memories together.
Larry's greatest joy was his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. He is survived by his children: Jacquelyn (Larry) Burk, Lawrence Jr. (Sue) Slade, Teresa (Joseph) Rewerts, and Jeffrey (Traci) Slade. His grandchildren, Michael Burk, Kelly Nofzinger, Joseph Rewerts Jr, Danielle Martinez, Ryan Slade, Ashley Bach, Austin Slade, and Avery Slade, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his immediate family, Larry is survived by his sisters, Betty Jean (Bob) Burke and Nancy (Michael) Hoffman, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dolores, his parents, his sister Mary Ann Thome, his brother Raymond Slade, and his niece Erin Slade. Larry was also preceded in death by many dear in-laws and friends.
Larry's generous spirit extended beyond his family, as he dedicated much of his time to volunteering with Meals on Wheels, spreading kindness and compassion to those in need. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Meals on Wheels in Larry's honor, continuing his legacy of service and love.
Per his request Larry has been cremated. A celebration of Larry's life will be held at a later date. Though Larry may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
Rest in eternal peace, Dad, you will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Kingsley Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
