Lee Edward
Swafford
Feb 10, 1958 — Jul 15, 2026
Friday
Gerald R. Ford Metro Lodge No. 97
4:00 - 8:00 pm (Eastern time)
Lee Edward Swafford went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 15, 2026.
Born on February 10, 1958, to Ralph and Shirley Swafford, Lee lived a life rooted in faith, service, and compassion. Throughout his life, he wore many hats with pride. He dedicated 30 years to serving his community as a police officer, cherished every moment as "Poppy" to his beloved granddaughters, and devoted countless hours to helping others through Alcoholics Anonymous. After successfully completing the program himself, Lee celebrated 22 years of sobriety and found great purpose in encouraging and supporting those walking the same path.
Whether you were a lifelong friend or simply the cashier at the grocery store, Lee had a remarkable gift for making people smile. His love for his country was only surpassed by his love for the Lord, and he believed deeply in serving others with kindness and humility. Some of his greatest joy was found in the quiet of the woods, surrounded by God's creation. In recent years, he had been working toward his dream of opening a campground that would serve as a place of healing and ministry for those recovering from addiction; a vision that reflected his servant's heart and unwavering faith.
Lee is lovingly remembered by his former wife, Tamara Brassfield, and their three children, Nathan, Shayna, and Cole.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Shirley Swafford, and his sister, Neesha Swafford.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, July 24, 2026, at Gerald R. Ford Metro Lodge No. 97, 1753 Alpine Ave. N.W. A time or remembrance will be shared at 6:00 PM with fellowship continuing afterwards until the time of leave.
