Obituary

Lee S. Vaught, 79, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on July 14, 2018.  He was born in Lake Township on January 14, 1939, to Ernel and Phyllis (Ellis) Vaught.

Lee grew up in the Carr Settlement area until moving to Ludington with his family in 1953.  He later met his wife, Bonnie Glover, and they were married on May 20, 1961.  She preceded him in death in December 2016.  During their 55-year marriage, they raised two daughters, Teresa and Cynthia.

After a brief career with C & O Railroad, Lee was employed by Dow Chemical from which he retired after 30 years of service in 1995.  In retirement, he and Bonnie enjoyed traveling throughout the US, often visiting their grandchildren.  He was an active member of The United Methodist Church, and a long-time member of the LHS Football Chain Gang, the American Legion (where he enjoyed morning coffee on a daily basis), the Ludington Boat Club, and The Elks Club where he was a past-Exalted Ruler.  He was one of the original Gus Busters and volunteered every year for the Gus Macker, up to and including 2018. Over the years he successfully donated over 10 gallons of blood to the American Red Cross.  He particularly enjoyed his second career delivering flowers, noting everyone was always happy to see him.

Lee is survived by his daughters Teresa (James) Cook of Big Rapids and Cynthia (Ret. Col. U.S.A. George, Jr.) Cone of Athens, Georgia. Grandchildren, George Cone III, Daniel Lee Cone, SSG Daniel (Amanda) Cook, Kerrina (Kyle) Rouech, and Maryrose (Jon) Robison, and Great-granddaughter Raelyn Cook. Siblings, Carole (Paul VanderBoom) Gilbert, Douglas Vaught, and Mary Lou (Ken) Johnson. Sister-in-law Carol Glover, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In addition to his parents and spouse, he was preceded in death by his brothers Richard, Jerry, and Donald Vaught; his in-laws Raymond and Alice Glover; as well as several spouses of his siblings.

According to his wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held Sunday, July 29 at 6:00 pm at The United Methodist Church of Ludington where family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Church of Ludington.
