Lela Rae Walker, 90, of Walkerville, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2026, at her home. She was born July 23, 1935, in Elberon, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Agnes (Kucera) Dvorak.
Lela taught for over 20 years, first in Elbridge and later at Ferry until her retirement. Afterwards she volunteered at the Oceana Christian School for several years. In her spare time, Lela enjoyed traveling, sewing, tending to her flower gardens, reading and watching the Price is Right.
Lela had been an active member of the Walkerville Wesleyan Church which she helped build, served as the organist for many years, taught Sunday School and went on Mission Trips, one of which involved taking Bibles to Russia.
Lela is survived by: 3 sons, Larry (Kendra) Walker, Jimmy (Randi) Walker, and Freddy (Sheri) Walker; her son-in-law, John McGahan; 15 grandchildren, Melissa (Chris) Roberts, Jerry (Lindsey) Walker, Zeke (Victoria) Walker, Tori Walker, Josiah (Janessa Alvesteffer) Walker, Leah Walker, Amanda (Mark) Myers, Timothy Kies, Zachary (Cheyeanna) Kies, Lacie (Rick) Thrush, Megan Dodds, Zachary Dodds, Josh McGahan, Hannah (Nick) Kirwin, and Abby (Charles) Hill; numerous great and great-great-grandchildren; and her beloved four-legged companion, Lady.
Lela was preceded in death by: her parents; her daughter, Kathy McGahan; her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Walker; and beloved dog, Toby.
A celebration of Lela’s life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Walkerville Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Bob Abbott and Pastor Caleb Kimball officiating. The family will receive friends at the church Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Oceana Christian School.
