Leona A. Bromley, age 102, of Walkerville, passed away Friday, March 18, 2011, at Oceana County Medical Care Facility in Hart. Born April 18, 1908 in Elbridge Township to John and Jessie (Dean) Dennison, she married Ami B. Bromley on June 14, 1930 in South Bend, Indiana. Leona served many years in public education as a teacher and cook. A member of the Walkerville Wesleyan Church, Leona taught Sunday School, served as secretary and treasurer and was the missionary director. She also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association and had been a 4-H leader. Leona was an avid gardener, an excellent homemaker, and a mother to all.
Mrs. Bromley is survived by her children, Dorsel (Loretta) Bromley of California; Carmaleen Purdy of Hesperia; LaVeda (Donald) Hunt of Hesperia; Marlin (Lynn) Bromley of Walkerville; and Bevis (Mary) Bromley of Walkerville. Her 18 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ami; daughter, Dorla Bromley; grandsons Jamie Bozeman and Donald Hunt; sister and brother-in-law, Lettie and George Gebhart; and brother and sister-in-law Claude and June Dennison.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bromley will be Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Walkerville Wesleyan church with Rev. Robert Abbott officiating. Visitation will be Monday, March 21, 2011 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart. The family requests those wishing to give a lasting memorial to consider the church building fund.
