IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leonard G.
Liell
May 3, 1939 – April 16, 2022
Leonard (Len) George Liell, born in Flint, Michigan on May 3, 1939, passed away on April 16, 2022, just shy of his 83rd birthday. Len was a devoted family man and was married 57 years to his wife Kathleen (Kitty) Joyce (O'Dea) Liell. He graduated from Kearsley High School in Flint in 1957, and then proudly served his country in the Air Force from 1957-1961. After his service, Len hired into UPS as one of its first seven drivers. In 1963 he returned to Flint and worked for AC Delco/Delphi for 36 years, during which time he raised five children, who were his pride and joy.
After Len's retirement, he and Kitty moved to Kewadin, Michigan, where they built their dream home in a beautiful country setting near Torch Lake. He enjoyed feeding and watching the birds from his back porch, where they would land on him, and would chirp and rap on his windows to let him know when the feeders needed to be re-filled. Len was known for his rich voice, his wonderful storytelling, his neverending quick one-liners, and his infectious laugh. He was an avid outdoorsman known for his love of Patrick McManus stories, and he was a great mechanic handy with tools and enjoyed buying and fixing up old equipment.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Thelma (Dolly) Liell, and by his sisters, Linda Hilligoss and Mary Gruber.
Len is survived by: his wife, Kitty Liell; his son, Matthew (Karen) Liell; daughter, Jill (Al) Koester; son, Benjamin (Errin) Liell; daughter, Julie (Dave) Hurst; and son, Andrew Liell (Becki Thomas); his brother, Mark (Loretta) Liell; ten grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Cremation will be performed and a celebration of life will be planned in the near future. Len was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Through his children, his stories will continue to live on.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
