IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lillian "Lois"
Jelen
February 19, 1927 – May 24, 2017
A homemaker extraordinaire, Lois could always be counted on for an endless pot of hot coffee and a little something sweet. A most welcome guest at any potluck, known especially for cookies, pie, Jell-O salad, and apple squares. Always ready to lend a hand wherever she was needed. Gracious to the end. She enjoyed countless walks through the Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague, and in later years along the paths of Keller Lake at Oxford Manor in Grand Rapids, with a special affection for autumn leaves, red cardinals, and hummingbirds.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband Leonard; Sharon Burgess and Don Jelen, great-granddaughter Haddie Sue Bromley, and her sister Dorothy Raschke.
Survived by her children, Gary and Chona Jelen, Sue Bromley, Greg and Trish Henemyer, Jill Henemyer and Dotti Clune; 6 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, her dear sister Roberta Olson, and brother, Ron Ramthun.
Lois's family is most deeply appreciative of the love and care she received in her last years from the skilled, remarkable and devoted staff at Oxford Manor in Grand Rapids.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at St. James Lutheran Church, 8945 Stebbins St., Montague, with Pastor John Brooks officiating. Interment will take place in Oak Grove Cemetery in Montague. Visitation will take place from 10 am until the start of the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the memorial fund of St. James Lutheran Church or the charity of your choice. Or, if you choose, just a simple, quiet, walk in the woods.
Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, White Lake Chapel, in Whitehall, is in charge of arrangements.
