Lillian Grace (Miller) McLachlan, 95, of Elk Rapids, Michigan, passed away early Sunday morning, Feb. 1, 2026. She was born Nov. 5, 1930, to Ben and Grace (King) Miller.

She married Donald Bruce McLachlan, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her four adult children, Vicki (Mick) Fulkerson, Christi Gurnoe, Bruce Kim (Carol) McLachlan and Wendi (Terry) Wooten, as well as nine grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Lillian attended Elk Rapids schools, graduating as valedictorian of her high school class. Her career, too, began in Elk Rapids with a job at the soda fountain when she was just 11, followed by positions as a phone operator, bank teller, real estate broker and co-founder of Strickland Realty.

An avid traveler, Lillian’s life itinerary took her to China, Russia, Africa, Europe and South America. She enjoyed cruises; twice she took along the whole family of 26! One of Lillian’s greatest joys was hosting large family gatherings for holidays and summer vacations at her home on Torch Lake. She shared her love of travel, and the joy of coming together, creating so many wonderful memories for her family.

Lillian had a special way with animals. The chipmunks who frequented her front porch ate from her hands. Her favorite hobby was walking the narrow roads through the woods near her home. She spoke to the deer she met on these walks, developing a rapport with them. It’s impossible to say how much those deer understood, but they gave the impression of listening intently.

To honor Lillian and her love of animals, memorial contributions can be made to Help From My Friends Pet Crisis Center in Bellaire. Contributions may also be made to Compassus Hospice Care in Gaylord. A celebration of life is planned for July.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
