Obituary

Mrs. Lorna Reeds, age 92 of Hart, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015. She was born May 8, 1923 in Weare Township, on the farm cleared by her grandfather James Cargill in 1871. Her parents were Evart and Hazel (Cargill) Fetters. Lorna attended the Cargill School in Weare through the eighth grade and graduated from Hart High School in 1940. She married Harvey Reeds of Hart on June 1, 1944 at the Hart United Methodist Church parsonage. Lorna and Harvey made their home in Hart their entire lifetime. Harvey entered the US Army during W.W. II and had served from 1942-1946. Lorna had been a secretary at the Cooperative Extension Service six years during W.W. II, District Health Department #5 for twenty-two and a half years and had volunteered at the Oceana County Historical & Genealogical Society for eighteen years of which she enjoyed very much. She was the treasurer of the Oceana County Cancer Society several years and took the Census in half of Hart in 1960. Lorna also assisted packing gifts and toys for the Goodfellows in Hart for over 25 years. They most always had family or friends living with them and assisted both sets of parents in their declining years. Lorna is survived by two daughters, Suzanne (Bob) Smalley of Allendale, MI and Linda Reeds of Hart; two grandsons, Michael Fuller of Baldwin, MI and Marc (Jennie) Fuller of Whitmore Lake, MI; one sister, Eunice Merritt of Norman, OK; two sisters in law, Louella "Tiny" Fetters of Muskegon, MI and Maxine Fetters of Sanford, MI; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harvey Reeds on February 18, 2010; three brothers, Alfred in 2008, Russell in 2012, Willard in April 2015; sister, Evelyn Jenkins in 2001. The Memorial Service for Mrs. Reeds will be held Saturday, June 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the West Golden Wesleyan Church, with Pastor Ron Rickard officiating. Interment will be in the Hart Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Oceana County Historical & Genealogical Society 114 S.
