Mr. Loyd Van Sickle, age 91, died Wednesday, February 28, 2007. He was born in Elbridge Township on February 28, 1916 to Fred and Emma (Tate) Van Sickle. Loyd graduated from Hart High School in 1934. He married the former Maxine May on July 6, 1939 in Hart and she preceded him in death on June 15, 2002. Loyd was a farmer and also was employed by the Michigan Employment Security Commission as a labor specialist, placing migrant workers in local agricultural jobs. He retired from the MESC in 1981 after 25 years of service. Loyd was also a journeymen electrician and was a carpenter. Mr. Van Sickle also served on the Oceana County Board of Commissioners from 1983-1996 and served as the chairman from 1990-1994. Loyd was a member of the Elbridge Community Church and the Wigton-Benona Lodge F & AM. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and spending time in the Upper Peninsula at the cabin that Loyd and his brother Earl had built. Loyd is survived by his family of 3 sons, Norman (Mary) Van Sickle of Kentwood, MI, Larry (Carla) Van Sickle of Hart and Garth (Jackie) Van Sickle of Lusby, MD; 8 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren. Loyd is also survived by a special friend, LaVerle Nixon and her family. He was preceded in death by his wife, twin sisters, Ruby Shull and Ruth Vannette, 2 additional sisters, Nita Wine and Audrey Van Sickle, 2 brothers, Earl and Harold Van Sickle. The Funeral Service for Loyd will be held Saturday, March 3, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. from the Elbridge Community Church with Pastor Bob Abbott officiating. Interment in Elbridge Township Cemetery. Friends may meet the family Friday 2-4 & 7-9 P.M. at the Tate-King Funeral Home, where a Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be given to the Elbridge Community Church.
