Obituary

Lucinda Jean (Valadez) Larson, lovingly known as "Peach" to her family and "Cindy" to so many who knew her, passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 27, 2026, at the age of 78.

Cindy was born on July 3, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Frank and Ethelda Valadez. She married the love of her life, Gerald Larson, in Des Moines on June 28, 1969. The couple began their life together in Des Moines until Jerry completed his medical training, after which they moved to North Branch, Minnesota, where they lived for five years before settling in Williamston, Michigan, where they raised their family until Jerry's retirement. They then made their home in Williamsburg, Michigan, on the shores of Lake Skegemog, wintering each year in Florida.

Cindy was a kind and loving mother and a joy to all who knew her. She always made time for her children and grandchildren, and she cherished the hours spent with friends and family, especially out on the lake she loved so much. For many years, her deep love for children led her to work at a preschool while her own children were at school or grown and out of the house, a job that suited her gentle, nurturing heart perfectly.

Even when faced with misfortune, Cindy had a gift for making the most of any situation. Family still laughs about the time she set out with Amy to go shopping in Howell, but accidentally got on I-69 instead of I-96, sending them forty-five miles north instead of east, right into Flint. Without missing a beat, she pivoted the entire outing into an impromptu lunch date with Jerry, who happened to work in Flint at the time.

Cindy is survived by her husband of nearly 57 years, Jerry Larson; her son, Eric Larson (Marcy); her daughter, Amy Robke (Bob); her grandchildren, Nathan and Addison Robke and Elian and Peter Larson; her foster grandson, Valeriano Tem Ramirez (Elizabeth), and their daughter, Ayla; and her younger brothers, Michael Valadez and Jeff Valadez.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ethelda Valadez, and her beloved grandson, Andy Larson.

A private memorial service will be held with family. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Elk-Skegemog Lake Association, PO Box 8, Elk Rapids, MI 49629, an organization close to Cindy's heart given her many cherished years on the lake.

Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Traverse City Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
