Mrs. Lulu Ethel Gilbert, age 93, of Walkerville, passed away Monday, August 26, 2013. She was born March 3, 1920, in Elbridge Township to Slyvester and Sarah (Newell) Monroe. She married Lester Gilbert on August 28, 1937, in Walkerville and they were married fifty-five years before his death in 1993. She was employed at Stokely-VanCamp for many years. Lulu was a long-time member of the Oceana Eagles and served as President of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was very active in the organization, helping at the majority of their events and bowling.
Lulu is survived by five sons, Ernest (Rose Corlew) Gilbert of Muskegon, James (Maxine Moore) Gilbert of Tacoma, Washington, Robert (Mary) Gilbert of Muskegon, Thomas Gilbert of Whitehall, and Buck (Gloria) Gilbert of Sparta; six daughters, Marjorie (Robert) Rudnick of Hart, Lucille Howe of Muskegon, Alice (Walter) Garboske of Hesperia, Maxine (J.R.Youngs) Trussell of Walkerville, Kathy Phillipo of Hesperia, and Helen (James Kosheba) Garvey of Muskegon. She also has twenty-five grandchildren, forty-eight great-grandchildren, thirty-five great-great grandchildren, and several adopted grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lester Gilbert on August 22, 1993; a son, Gerald Gilbert in 1986; a daughter-in-law, Patsy Gilbert, in 2003; a son-in-law, William Trussell in 2006; three grandchildren, Roberta Padron, Scott Gilbert, and Kandi Garvey; and five great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Padron, Debra Padron, David Padron, Jr., River Johnson, and Jessie Lynn Zuber.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Gilbert will be Saturday, August 31, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at King Funeral Home in Hart. Interment will be in Elbridge Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O. Box 451, Hart, MI 49420.
