Rev. Lyman McDougal Lauver, age 76, of Ludington, passed away Friday, November 18, 2016. He was born April 14, 1940 in St. Elizabeth Hospital in Hutchinson, Kansas to Philip John and Margie (McDougal) Lauver. The family was completed with the birth of brothers, Lynn Dee and David John Lauver and sister, Julia Ann Lauver now Lambert. Lyman grew up in Riverside in Wichita, Kansas, living in World War II housing and moving to 1118 Franklin after the birth of his sister. He attended Riverside Elementary School, John Marshall Junior High School and North High School. Lyman was very active in Boy Scouting, earning the Eagle Scout Award and Explorers Silver Award. While in high school, he lettered in swimming and sang in the North High Singers. He continued his education receiving his B.A. degree in Psychology from Wichita State University and received his Masters of Divinity at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. In 1960, he married Mary Ann Harms in Wichita and two children were born to this union, Marja Karim and Heather Jane. Following his divorce, Lyman married Sue Ellen Huffstutter on November 8, 1975. They share four children Sonja Elise, Brendan James, Colin McDougal and Ian David Michael Lauver. He is survived by his wife Sue Ellen Lauver of Ludington and by all of his children, eight grandsons, one great grandson and one great granddaughter. He is also survived by his sister, Julia Ann (Lauver) Lambert. Lyman was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers David John and Lynn Dee Lauver. Rev. Lyman served as a United Methodist Pastor in the Kansas East and West Conferences from 1966-1973. He later earned a degree in counseling from the University of Missouri–Kansas City. He worked as a counselor in Hays, Kansas, Faribault, Minnesota and Ludington. The Memorial Service for Rev. Lauver will be held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. from the United Methodist Church of Ludington, 5810 Bryant Road, Ludington, MI 49431, with the Rev. Kenneth Tabor officiating. Friends may greet the family Tuesday, one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the United Methodist Church of Ludington, Boy Scout Troop 1190 or to Hospice of Michigan. The family suggests, in honor of Lyman, wear plaids and bright colors to the service and be prepared to share memories and stories about Lyman.
