Obituary

Lynn Palmer Carr, a prominent White Lake businessman for 60 years, passed on May 25, 2020, at Select Specialty Hospital in Muskegon. He had just celebrated his 82nd birthday on May 6, at his home in Whitehall, with all his children in attendance and many of his grandchildren.

Lynn was born at home in Winfield Township. He graduated high school in 1955 and then went on to Ferris Institute (now Ferris State University), graduating with a degree in Pharmacy in 1959. After taking his state board exam, he moved to Whitehall. On February 6, 1960, he married the former Jane Welsby, of Flint. The next year, he took the state board exam in Florida and practiced pharmacy there for a year. Lynn then moved back to Flint and bought his first pharmacy. In 1963, he purchased Pitkin's Drugs, and he and his wife moved back to Whitehall permanently. In the seventies, Lynn purchased Skipper's Landing Marinas, with three locations on White Lake, from Harry and Stella Pillinger. He owned and operated these for the next 10 years. Lynn also purchased many buildings in the downtown area and many rental properties in the White Lake area.

In the 80s, Lynn sold both Pitkin's and Skipper's and went on to purchase two more pharmacies in Big Rapids and Grand Rapids. He owned and operated these until he semi-retired in the late 90s. He then worked part-time for other pharmacies in the area until he officially retired in 2017. Other businesses he owned are Tish's Hallmark in Kalamazoo, Kaufman's Pharmacy in Wyoming, Carr's Service Center in Whitehall, Morden's Construction in Whitehall, and Carr Farms, Inc. in Lakeview.

Lynn served on a number of boards, among them were Prudential Board of White Lake Congregational Church, Shelby State Bank, Lynnwood Enterprises, Humiston and Keeting, State Street Properties, Agrico Leasing, and Carr Farms. Inc.

He was a member of the Elks of Muskegon, Eagles of Whitehall, The Chambers of Commerce of Whitehall and Big Rapids, Lions Club, the Charlotte Harbor Yacht Club, and the Arts Council of White Lake.

Lynn and Jane had four children all raised in Whitehall. All were educated at Whitehall District Schools and all graduated from various Michigan colleges and universities. Lynn was so proud of his children and always said that a good education affords many advantages as you go through life. While the children were young, Lynn took up flying airplanes. He had one at Ottiger Airport in Montague, and also a seaplane that he kept on White Lake. He loved taking his "kids" for a ride over White Lake and then landing at the Marinas.

After he semi-retired, Lynn spent summer days at the "River House" on the Sauble River, in Freesoil, his winters at the condo on Charlotte Harbor, Punta Gorda, Florida, and the rest of the year at the home in Whitehall.

He is survived by: Jane; daughters, Tish (Jim) Boerigter of Kalamazoo and Jennifer (Todd) LeMieux of Spring Lake; sons, Justin (Kim) Carr of Twin Lake and Jordon (Tina) Carr of Whitehall; grandchildren, Calvin Boerigter of Seattle, WA, Mallory LeMieux of Chicago, IL, Parker LeMieux of Grand Rapids, Morgan Lemieux of Spring Lake, Kyleigh Carr of Twin Lake, Lauryn Carr of Twin Lake, Tyler Carr of Whitehall, and Jacob Carr of Arizona; a brother, Duane; and many nieces and nephews.

Lynn was preceded in death by: his parents, Donald and Zelda Carr; a brother, Jerome Carr; Gladys, Joseph and Walter Welsby; and his beloved namesake grandson, Joshua Palmer (JP) Boerigter.

As per his request, Lynn was cremated and a private family ceremony was held.
