Mrs. Maria De la Luz Vasquez, age 86, of Hart, passed away Sunday, February 10, 2013. She was born February 3, 1927, in San Antonio, TX to Maurilio and Lita (Rodriguez) Davila. She was married to Fidencio "Joe" Vasquez, Sr. and he preceded her in death on November 28, 2000. She was employed at Hawley Nursery and was a member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. Mrs. Vasquez loved her family very much. She was a very loving and giving "people person", who always fed her guests and family well. She made great tamales. She was very active in her church and held Las Posadas every December from her home.

Maria is survived by her children, Fidencio Vasquez, Jr., Norma (John Merten) Vasquez, and Roberto J. Vasquez, all of Hart; her grandchildren, Christopher Lopez, Christina Lopez, and Erica Vasquez; her great-granddaughters, Brianna Lopez and Anastasia Prine; and her siblings, Baldomero (Oralia) Davila and Olga (Alberto) Herrera, all of Hart, and Olivia Hernandez of Lansing. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; her son, Fernando Vasquez on November 15, 1976; three brothers, Antonio Maurilio, and Oscar Davila; and one sister, Conchita Rodriguez.

The Memorial Service for Mrs. Vasquez will be held Friday, February 15, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the King Funeral Home in Hart with Father Thomas Bolster officiating. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the service. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Mass Intentions at St. Gregory Catholic Church, 316 S. Peach St., Hart, MI 49420.
