Marie Elaine (Skocelas) Martineau age 71, of Ludington, went to be with her Lord on August 31, 2015. She passed away peacefully at her home in Ludington, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 29, 1944, in Manistee, the daughter of James and Irene (Meade) Skocelas.
On April 24, 1970, in Manistee, Marie married John "Jack" Martineau. She was an active member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington and before that, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Manistee. Marie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and sister, who relished spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She was a fantastic cook and accomplished baker. Marie enjoyed music, especially polkas, the Statler Brothers, and Fiddler on the Roof. She also liked watching football and rooting for the San Francisco 49ers.
Marie is survived by her husband, Jack Martineau of Ludington, MI; sons, David (Nick Mason) Martineau of St. Louis, MO and Donald (Jennifer) Martineau of Stronach, MI; stepdaughter, Cindy (Jim) Adamski of East Lake, MI; stepsons, Steven (Sue) Martineau of Ludington, MI and Mark Nice of South Lyon, MI; stepdaughter-in-law, Joan Nice; her eight grandchildren, Kurt (Erin) Adamski, Amanda Adamski, Steven (Allyssa) Martineau, Jr., Erika Nice, Kristine (Scott Applegate) Nice, Jacob Nice, Kade Mason and Ryker Martineau; her siblings, Robert "Sonny" (Judy) Skocelas, Jackie Mantych, Phyllis (Bernie) Henion, Jerry (Renee) Skocelas, Mike (Tracy) Skocelas, Clarence "PeeWee" Janowiak, and Judy Skocelas; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ben Skocelas; sisters, Audrey Skocelas (in infancy), Kathy Skocelas, Rose Wittlief and Charlotte Janowiak; along with her brothers-in-law Duane Mantych and Neil Wittlief.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered Thursday September 3, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Simon Catholic Church in Ludington, with Father Thomas P. Page presiding. The family will receive friends for visitation at the church one hour prior the service. Final interment will take place at a later date at Mt. Carmel Catholic Cemetery in Manistee, MI.
