Obituary

Mrs. Marilyn "Tootie" Brower Buchner, age 80, of Pentwater, Michigan, passed peacefully at home surrounded by family and loved ones on Wednesday, May 28, 2014. She was born February 15, 1934, in Pentwater to Jess and Lily (Matson) Petersen. She married Corwin Gordon "Buzz" Brower in 1953 and had three children. He died in a boating accident in 1956. Later in life, she married George Buchner, Jr. on September 26, 1981, in Hart, Michigan; they were married twenty-eight years before his death on December 16, 2009. She was a beautician who operated Pentwater Beauty Shop for thirty years. Tootie loved gardening, baking, cooking, spending time with her family, and card playing, especially bridge, pinochle, and euchre. A very active and civic-minded person, Tootie was involved in many aspects of St. James Episcopal Church, where she was a member, and was a lifetime member of the Pentwater Garden Club. She also was a member of the Pentwater Yacht Club, the Pentwater VFW Ladies' Auxiliary, and the Pentwater Historical Society, and enjoyed traveling in the United States and Europe.

The family would like to especially thank her caregivers, Melissa Kapalas, Hilary Wright, and Sherry Wilson, for their care of Tootie in her final months, and Father Sam Morrison for his visits and prayers.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Karen Way of Pentwater, Michigan, Steve (Beverly) Brower of Manistee, Michigan, Corwin Lee (Nancy) Brower of Radford, Virginia, Cathy Maree (Steve) Clark of Bozeman, Montana, and Michael George (Patricia) Buchner of Otisville, Michigan; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two sisters, Joyce Major of Hart, Michigan, and Lillian "Babe" Hackey of Pentwater, Michigan; She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Corwin "Buzz" Brower; her second husband, George Buchner, Jr.; her step-son, Kenneth Lee Buchner (2002); her son-in-law, Marvin Way (2005); two brothers, Russell and Carlyn Petersen; and two sisters, Dora Berger and Emily Dewyer.

The Funeral Service for Mrs. Buchner will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at 12:00 noon at King Funeral Home-Hart with Father Sam Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the service at the funeral home. The family requests that any memorials be directed to Crystal Valley Care Fund, P.O.
