Obituary

Marilyn M. Nussdorfer (nee Pipe) age 83

Passed on March 15, 2024 at home surrounded by family.  Marilyn was born January 10, 1941 in Pontiac, MI; the only child of Leslie and Cloman Pipe.   She was an excellent student and attended Alma College after graduating from Dondero High School in Royal Oak at the age of 16.  She met David Nussdorfer at Alma while tutoring him in Spanish and they were married on January 30, 1960.  They began their married life in Lansing followed by a move to Okemos in 1986 and retired to Torch Lake in 2020.

Dave and Marilyn had cottages in Michigan throughout the years.  She loved the beauty of the lakes and would often describe the sunlight on the waves as 'diamonds on the water'.  The cottages were gathering places for her family especially for "Cousins' Week" when her grandchildren would spend a week together every summer.  She also enjoyed spending many winters in Tucson.

Marilyn was our family matriarch who was happiest in the kitchen with everyone gathered around.  We loved her Prime Rib on Christmas Eve along with Chicken for a Crowd and many other memorable meals.  She hosted countless Thanksgiving dinners often including extended family for 40+ at the table.  She loved to play games especially cribbage and belonged to numerous Bridge and card clubs.  Marilyn was an avid reader and also enjoyed needlepoint.

She worked alongside Dave in the family business, APCO INC most of their married life after the unexpected death of Dave's Dad in 1972.   After Dave retired, she continued on as Controller working until her retirement in 2020.  Dave and Marilyn visited many countries in their travels.  They especially enjoyed driving trips across America and visited many of our National Parks.  Her grandchildren were lucky to be included in many of these trips.

Education was very important to Marilyn.  She was proud to have her three sons graduate from college and was also in attendance at each of her nine grandchildren's college graduations. Marilyn was very generous with her time and talents and was involved with many civic, educational and religious organizations over the years.  These included Friends of the Lansing Public Library, St Vincent Charities, Lansing Symphony Orchestra, Women of ELCA and others. She was a member of many churches including Redeemer Lutheran—Lansing, Calvary Lutheran-Lansing, University Lutheran-East Lansing and was most recently attending First Presbyterian-Elk Rapids.

Marilyn was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Cloman Pipe and by her in-laws, Alfred and Nellie Nussdorfer.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 64 years, Dave and her sons: Jeff (Cindy) Nussdorfer, Jim (Shari) Nussdorfer and Mike (Heidi) Nussdorfer.  Also her nine grandchildren and seven great-granddaughters:  Brian (Eliza) Nussdorfer and their daughter Molly, Sarah (Steve) Cary and their daughters Annabelle, Grace, Madeline, Juliet and Felicity, Forrest Nussdorfer, Ethan (Hannah) Nussdorfer, Claire Nussdorfer, Kyle (Casey) Nussdorfer and their daughter Rowan, Ryan Nussdorfer, Josh Nussdorfer and Emilee Nussdorfer.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Luncheon will be held on Thursday, April 18th at the English Inn, Eaton Rapids 1-3pm.
