Ms. Marilyn Kaye Quijas, age 70, of Mears, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015. She was born March 23, 1945, in Hart Township, to Robert and Irene (Gingway) Lewis. Marilyn attended college receiving two associate degrees from Muskegon Business College. She was employed at Oceana Employment Training as an office supervisor and later worked in the Shelby Public Schools. Marilyn was a proud and active member of Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians. She very often attended Native American Indian Pow Wows taking her grandchildren with her to show them and experience their Native American Heritage. Marilyn loved to grow flowers in her gardens and enjoyed traveling to attend many theatre productions and musicals. She also loved Elvis Presley and collecting tiger animals. Marilyn is survived by two sons, Daniel J. Quijas of Mears; and Ruebon Quijas of Traverse City; six grandchildren, Amanda Buzzard of Flint, Briana Quijas of Ann Arbor, Ruebon John Quijas II of Muskegon, Steven Quijas of Traverse City, Timothy Quijas of Traverse City, Aiyana Quijas of Traverse City; one great-granddaughter, Blakely Buzzard; son-in-law, Tim Ninham of Oneida,WI; four brothers, Robert (Diane) Lewis of Traverse City, David Lewis of Oklahoma, Arnold (Valerie) Lewis of Twin Lake, Steven John Lewis of Grand Rapids; one sister: Joan Myrick Lewis of Detroit. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert George and Irene Virginia Lewis; brother, Donald Lewis; two sisters, Sharon Lewis, and Linda Lewis, daughter, Stephanie Ninham; and son, Timothy Mark Quijas. The Funeral Service for Ms. Quijas will be Tuesday, March 31, 2015, at 1:00 pm at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Hart with Fr. Donn Tufts officiating. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Native American Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at King Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Hart.
