Obituary

Mark Belrose, age 75, of Whitehall, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025. he was born February 27, 1949, in Muskegon, where he was raised by his parents, Guy and Bonnie (Murphy) Belrose, along with the best sister he could ask for, Lisa (Bailey).

Mark was an avid weightlifter both while attending Muskegon High School, Wayne State University, and during his working years. He was never shy to take on a challenger. After college, Mark moved back to Muskegon to work at Muskegon Heights High School. Soon after he met his wife, Karen (Urtel), a fellow teacher in the area, they would live 51 years together in the Whitehall area. Mark was blessed with two children, Michael and Kaitlin, and as a family they spent many days going on adventures together. He continued that tradition with his grandchildren, never wanting to miss the opportunity to show them the world.

Mark's other passion was being a Teacher, Mentor, and Coach at Muskegon Heights High School. To his last days, he was still interacting with students from over his decades of working there. Mark helped mold future Lawyers, Doctors, Nurses, Biologist, Musicians, Coaches, Teachers, and even a NCAA Champion. Many of his fondest memories were of being a Muskegon Heights Tiger.

Mark leaves behind many that will keep him in their memories: wife, Karen; son, Michael (Hanna); daughter, Kaitlin; grandchildren, Olivia, Haley, Lexi, Blake, Matthew, and Harper; sister, Lisa (Derek); mother-in-law, Phyllis; brothers-in-Law, Bob (Jill) and Paul (Lezlie); sisters-in-law, Marilyn (John) and Diane (Rick); Uncle Mark to Ross, Claire (Tyson, Tianna, Tahlya), Derek, Lauren (Jared, Micah, Isiah), Jessica (Damian, Dahlia), Sean (Megan, Raeanne, Addison, Payton), Landon, Charles, Melanie (Jennings), and James (Bridget); and his breakfast and movie watching buddy, Cousin Jackson.
