IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mark Geoffrey
Mainwaring
June 13, 1955 – October 30, 2024
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mark G. Mainwaring, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who departed this life on October 30, 2024, at the age of 69. Born on June 13, 1955, in Allen Park, Michigan, Mark's journey through life was marked by a profound dedication to his family, his work, and his passions.
Mark pursued a distinguished career in medicine, earning both a Ph.D. and an M.D. from Wayne State University. His dedication to oncology led him to complete his residency at the University of Florida before embarking on pioneering cancer research. He later joined an esteemed oncology practice in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, where he served patients with compassion and expertise until his retirement in 2017.
Throughout his life, Mark was an individual of boundless energy and interests. An accomplished diver during his school years in Dearborn, he carried his love for the water into his later years as an avid fisherman. Mark also found joy in woodworking and gardening, often sharing the beauty he cultivated by gifting roses to those around him. His zest for life and eagerness to embrace new experiences left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
Mark's sudden passing due to cardiac arrest in Muskegon, Michigan, has left a void in the hearts of his family and friends. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the memories and stories shared by those who loved him.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his devoted wife, Lisa Mainwaring; daughter Christina; grandson Emyr; siblings Ross Mainwaring (Christine), Michele Robinson (Dale), and Scott Mainwaring (Vicky); stepchildren Michael Bennett (Tara), Shannon D'Anna, and Amy Brubaker (Brent); nieces Meghan Mainwaring, Kelyn Mainwaring, Courtney Maher, and Rachel Robinson; and nephew Michael Maher (Kirsten).
Mark was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Rosser and Helen Mainwaring, his brother Michael Mainwaring, and close family friend, Louise Dumas.
A celebration of Mark's remarkable life will be held at a later date, allowing family and friends to gather and honor the legacy of a man whose life was a testament to love, kindness, and unyielding curiosity.
May he rest in eternal peace.
