Mrs. Marlene J. Meeker, age 77, of Ludington, passed away August 24, 2013, at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. She was born July 6, 1936, in Grand Rapids to Ellsworth and Margaret (Drube) Horton. She was raised in Grand Rapids, but spent all her adult life in Ludington. Marlene loved to spend time with her family and friends and was a league bowler for many years. She enjoyed outdoor activities including riding her bicycle, picnicking, and floating the Sauble river at "her Park". She was avid in her crafts such as knitting, crocheting, and baking and was a long-time Hospice Volunteer. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and friend and will be greatly missed by all.
Marlene is survived by her brother, Larry (Nancy) Horton; her children, Sandra D. Freiberg, Laura (Edwin) Rivon, and Benjamin (Linda) Harrington; her step-children, Dwayne, Brian, and Robin Meeker; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Todd) Nyholt, Theresa (Eric) Turek, Jon P. Freiberg, Bianca, Taylor, and Jada Rivon, Brad and Christopher Miller; four great-grandchildren, Elle and Lucas Nyholt, Jania Gossett, and Braylen Miller; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Margaret and Ellsworth Horton; sister, Lorraine Heible; niece, Linda Heible; and son-in-law, Jonathon Freiberg.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Meeker will be Friday, August 30, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Ludington with Rev. Dennis Bromley officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
