Mrs. Mary Pauline Hammerle, age 91 of Hart passed away peacefully and was received into the arms of our heavenly Father on May 15, 2016. She was born June 28, 1924 in Hart to B.J. and Nora Olivia (Hansbarger) Merten. She attended and received her diploma from Michigan Elementary Schools-Oceana County. Even though she never attended high school because of a shortage of money, she was always proud of the fact that the principal of her school made a personal visit to her father and told him of her excellent qualifications for attending high school.
Mary married Fred Hammerle on February 3, 1951 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was an active member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Joseph Altar Society. She loved to square dance and was a member of the Melody Mates.
As a young lady, Mary learned how to sew and make many of her own clothes. Aside from the many other duties and responsibilities of being a farm wife, mother and homemaker, she was also a quilter making many beautiful quilts in her day. Mary also enjoyed working in her garden and flower beds and making beautiful Christmas ornaments.
Mary is survived by her five children, Monica (Robert) Garcia of Holland, Michael (Sonja) Hammerle of Virginia, Annette Hammerle of Jenison, Allen Hammerle of Hart, Paul Hammerle of Hart; five granddaughters, Tracy Garcia, Kelly Garcia, Monica (Nick) Williamson of Odessa, FL, Michelle (Ryan) Lamboni of Virginia, Deanna Sanders; four great grandchildren, Abigail Williamson, Addison Lamboni, Chase Sanders, Bronson Sanders; also several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine (Glenn) Reinders, dear friend and sisters in law, Letha Hammerle, June Merten of Fremont, Margaret Merten of Hart; brother in law, Marcellinus (Jan) Hammerle. She was preceded in death by her husband Fred on January 27, 1993; two brothers, Bernard and Charles Merten; sisters in law, Loretta Haase, Anastasia Malburg, Germaine DeRuiter, Evelyn Hammerle, Valeria Alvesteffer; brothers in law, Bill Haase, Robert Alvesteffer, Herman DeRuiter, Orville Hammerle, Marinus Hammerle.
The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Hammerle will be offered Friday, May 20, 2016 at 11:00 AM from St. Joseph Catholic Church-Weare with Fr. Phil Sliwinski presiding. Interment will be in Mount Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Building Fund at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2380 W. Jackson Rd., Hart, MI 49420.
