Mary Lou (Cole) Kuhn, 80, Ludington, passed away peacefully surrounded by her children and grandchildren in her "Little Yellow House" on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.
She was born on September 30, 1938 in Rocky Mt., North Carolina to Alden P. Cole and Marie L. (Miller) Cole who preceded her in death. Mary Lou was raised in East Lansing, MI and graduated from East Lansing High School in 1956. She started her college education at Michigan State University and graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in Special Education. She was one of the two pioneer teachers in the first special education classrooms in Mason County. She married Daniel Kuhn in1962 and they celebrated 52 years of marriage prior to Dan's passing in 2014. Following her teaching career, Mary Lou worked for 11 years at Standard Lumber. Following her retirement in 2000, she found great joy working at Country Gardens until their closing in 2014. Flowers and gardening was always a source of great joy for Mary Lou. She was a past member of A.A.U.W. and also belonged to the P.E.O. chapter, E.U. Her grandchildren were, as she puts it, the "Loves of her Life" and enjoyed spending time with them. Special groups of friends that she made many memories with were the "Meisenheimer Road Ice Cream Bus" and her "Fab Five."
Mary Lou is survived by: her children, Michael (Angie) Kuhn, Kerrie (Scott) Carl, Cindy (Kevin) Hackert, Deborah Lane, Dennis Jeffrey (Merry) Kuhn; grandchildren, Braden Carl, Serena Kuhn, Lorynn, Maggie and Cole Hackert, Sarah Kuhn, Matt, Scott, Jessica and Doug Lane, Emma and Matthew Adams; and her nieces and nephew, Kim, Kristy and Tim Cole.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Thomas Cole.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial services will be held at 2:30 PM, Friday, February 1, 2019, at Emanuel Lutheran Church, in Ludington, with Father Mick Shriver officiating. The family will receive friend from 2:00 PM until time of services at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Harbor Hospice and Meals on Wheels of Mason County.
Beacon Cremation and Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, Ludington, is in charge of arrangements.
