Obituary

Mary Macklam, 101, of Ludington, passed away Wednesday, December 27, 2017. She was born December 4, 1916 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Charles and Lidia (Cech) Szendre. She married George Macklam on December 2, 1939, in Manistee.

Mary is survived by: her 3 children, Jean (Les) Sharp, Jo Ann Kidd, and George (Katherine Suber) Macklam; 10 grandchildren, Wendy (Gary) Walters, Jeff (Kristin) Sharp, Steven (Sarah) Sharp, Shon (Chika) Clay, Shannon (Michael Seely) Clay, Bobbi (Brett) Banfield, Jessica (Aaron) Sadler, Christian (George) Merz, Brad (Rhonda Mrasek) Dame and Emerson (Shayna Stewart) Dame; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, George; her son- in-law, Rick Kidd; and one great-grandchild.

Mary grew up in Copemish, helping raise her siblings after her mother died. After graduating from Nursing School in Lansing she practiced in Manistee. After marrying George, they moved to Ludington where she enjoyed raising her family, volunteering, and fishing. She also enjoyed spending winters in Florida.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Ludington Study Club, Elks Auxiliary, Ludington Yacht Club and the Boat Club. She enjoyed The Mushroom Club, The Coin Club, and setting up displays at the Mason County Fair.  We will remember our full-blooded Hungarian mom as a strong, feisty, hard-working woman who loved traveling, making friends, taking care of her family and following God's Path for 101 years.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 26, 2018, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Pere Marquette Chapel, in Ludington.
